LITE-ON Storage announced its popular EP series PCIe SSD at Flash Memory Summit on August 7th. LITE-ON EP4 SSD is the best choice for read-intensive applications because it can reach up to 2,200 MB/s of continuous sequential read speed and 1,100 MB/s of sequential write speed.

Introduction of LITE-ON Storage LITE-ON EP4 SSD

LITE-ON Storage, the generally acknowledged leader in the rapidly growing solid-state drive (SSD) industry, released the popular EP Series enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs) – EP4 in booth #621 at Flash Memory Summit on August 7.

Flash Memory Summit 2019 is held in Santa Clara, Calif. During the conference, LITE-ON Storage announced that the 5th generation EP series SSD has adapted 96-layer BiCS FLASH™ 3D eTLC NAND so that the performance has been improved 15% over previous generations.

The LITE-ON EP4 SSD has two capacities of 960 GB and 1920 GB. And its continuous sequential read speed has reached up to 2,200 MB/s and sequential write speed has attained up to 1,100 MB/s, which is the best choice for read-intensive applications. Besides, it can have up to 3 Drive Writes per Day (DWPD) of endurance.

The 5th generation EP series PCIe SSD has a compact form factor of PCIe Gen 3×4 M.2 and provides improved input/output operations per second (IOPS), a firmware refresh and a wealth of features to assure better performance, stability, data security and energy efficiency.

Darlo Perez, Managing Director, Americas region at LITE-ON Storage said that because their firmware, innovative hardware design and efficient manufacturing processes have been existing for several years, the EP series has been adopted in the global data center and hyperscalers. Darlo said that they have now developed the fifth generation of this amazing series, and they will continue to expand their firmware expertise to meet today’s and tomorrow’s cloud and data center environmental challenges.

“The SSD market is expected to see continued growth over the long-term forecast, reaching close to $30 billion by 2023, with the largest growing segments being enterprise cloud. LITE-ON has successfully deployed over 10 million EP series SSDs into major data center and cloud providers.  Undoubtedly, LITE-ON has shown continued success in this fastest growing Enterprise Cloud segment.” said Don Jeanette, VP and Lead Analyst, Trendfocus SSD Research.

Nigel Alvares, Vice President of Marketing for the Flash Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. said that it is very gratifying to be able to expand their partnership with LITE-ON and provide innovative cloud data center SSDs. The emergence of EP4 SSD demonstrates Marvell’s NANDEdge controller technology to support scalability in multi generations NAND components. The combination of LITE-ON’s storage system expertise with Marvell’s state-of-the-art SSD controllers has a high-volume shipping track record into one of the world’s largest cloud data center operators. And Nigel said that he is looking forward to continuing this success with the LITE-ON EP4 SSD.

The LITE-ON EP4 SSD will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
