What Is AppVShNotify?

Microsoft created AppVShNotify and AppVShNotify is used by Microsoft Application Virtualization.

The service is a Microsoft background service that is used solely by the Application Virtualization (App-V) client and is used only when “integrating” a virtualized application. Data for related applications exists in the virtual application server.

AppVShNotify is about 339 MB on the computer and you can find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office.

AppVShNotify Might Be Malware

Sometimes, AppVShNotify can masquerade as malware on the system. When it appears in a folder other than the above folder, AppVShNotify is most likely malware. In this case, you will see the following message on your computer like:

  • Bad Image
  • Application Error
  • AppVShNotify could not be installed
  • Failed to initialize properly

These messages indicate AppVShNotify cannot start, and the process terminates. You should find the location of this file to fix the error. If this file is not in your computer’s program file, it could be malware.

Should AppVShNotify Be Disabled?

You don’t need to disable AppVShNotify because it doesn’t harm your computer in any way. If it is present in its source, it is only 8% harmful to your computer. But polls show that around 10% of people have deleted the file. Thus, you can disable AppVShNotify if you wish.

Check If the File Is Legit

How to check if the service is legitimate or just another piece of malware that infected your computer?

Firstly, you need to check to see if the application is digitally signed by a legitimate source. Digital signatures verify that an application comes from a verified development / publisher and in most cases, will not prove to be malware.

Method 1: Uninstall with Application Manager

Before continuing, make sure you log in as an administrator. If you are still using the Virtualization service, you can’t use it in the future. It seems that virtualization software relies on this process to perform its operations correctly, so it is considered a part of the process.

If there are real problems with this process, you can continue to uninstall the virtualization software, as described below.

Step 1: Press Windows + R keys to open the Run application, type appwiz.cpl and click OK

Step 2: Find Microsoft Application Virtualization, right-click on it and choose Uninstall

Step 3: Restart your computer. Check to see if the application is deleted from your computer and the service that caused the problem disappears.

Before completing the uninstallation process, make sure there are no remaining services on your computer. To fully ensure that the service is eradicated, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press Windows + R keys to open the Run application, type regedit and click OK

Step 2: Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and search for any entries of Appshnotify or Microsoft Application Virtualization.

Method 2: Do a Malware Scan

You can remove illegal software from your computer in many ways. There are many good antivirus software that can help you. You can download software from Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, etc.
