Xbox One Controller Troubleshooting
First of all, we will do Xbox One wireless controller troubleshooting. The most common problems related to the Xbox controller are connection issues. Sometimes, you may find your controller not connecting or not maintaining connection.
Your Xbox One console says that your controller isn’t connected or isn’t responding to controller commands. The possible reasons and corresponding solutions are below.
1. Controller Has a Bad Battery
If the controller battery is low (low power supply), you will have only partial functionality. Then, you should replace its battery or charge the battery pack. You can also use the wireless controller by plugging it into the console with a USB-to-micro-USB cable.
2. Controller Is Out of Range
Wireless controllers of Xbox One is functional within 30 feet (9.1 meters) of their consoles. If you use them out of the range, they will be disconnected. Moreover, if there are walls or other interference between the controller and the console, the available range will reduce.
Therefore, just keep yourself as near as you can to the console when you are using your controller.
3. Wireless Interference
Just as mentioned above, if there is interference between the console and its controllers, such as a wireless router, cordless phone, or metallic object, the connection between them will become weak or even been cut off. So, just put those items as far as you can.
4. Console Heavy Load
If there are many controllers connected to one console, the connection between the console and any of the controllers is weak. And, if there are already 8 controllers connected to the console, you can’t connect the 9th one.
So, if you want to connect the 9th controller to the already full-load console, just disconnect one of the current 8 controllers. Furthermore, if you want to get a stable and strong connection, you’d better disconnect all the unused controllers.
5. Bad WiFi Board
If you have several controllers and none of them can be connected to your console, it may be that the console is with a problem. Maybe the WiFI board of the console is damaged. If so, just replace another new one. It may be other issues with the console, just check it carefully, find the problem, and fix it.
6. Bad Controller
If you have several controllers and only one of them cannot be connected to your console, it is probably the controller itself is bad. Just replace it or take it somewhere for fixing.
7. Reconnect the Controller
You can try to reconnect your controller if you can’t connect it for the first time.
Step 1. Turn on both the controller and the console.
Step 2. Hold down the wireless connect button on the top of your controller until the Xbox button flashes.
Step 3. Release the wireless connect button then hold it down again.
If the light on the controller keeps on, it means that the controller is successfully connected to the console.
8. Hard Reset
The final method is to hard reset Xbox One.
Step 1. Hold down the power button of the console for several seconds to shut it down.
Step 2. Wait 1 minute or so and power on the console again.
Step 3. Check whether the console detects the controller and connect it automatically or not.
Xbox One Network Troubleshooting
Sometimes, Xbox One cannot connect to the Internet. Or, it continually loses connection to the network. It may result from the following causes.
1. Bad WiFi Board
Also, a network connection problem can be caused by a bad WiFi board. If this is true, similarly, replace a new one.
2. Hard Reset
You can also try to hard reset the device to make it connect to the Internet. Just refer to the guide above.
3. Router Malfunction
In most cases, the network connection problems are due to router malfunctioning. If so, you can reset or power cycle your router to fix the issue. Below is the guidance for resetting a router.
Step 1. Turn off the Xbox machine.
Step 2. Power off the modem, then the router, and disconnect the power cords.
Step 3. Wait one minute or so. Then, reconnect the power cables.
Step 4. Power on the modem and wait until the lights to stabilize.
Step 5. Turn on the router and wait until the lights to stabilize.
Step 6. Switch on the console and check for network connection.
If your console still fails to connect to the Internet, maybe you should leave it alone and try again sometime later, several hours or so.
Xbox One Troubleshooting Console
There are two main problems involving Xbox consoles.
Xbox One Won’t Turn On
If you see the front status light is sark, it means that the Xbox console fails to power up.
1. Bad Power Supply
It may be a bad power that causes the console won’t turn on. First of all, check for the power connection. One end of the power cord should be firmly plugged into a power outlet, while the other end should be securely connected with the Xbox device.
You can try to plug the power cable into a different power outlet or directly into a power outlet without a surge protector.
Also, you should check for the power supply, if its light is off, you need to replace a good one. If its light is on and normal, you may try to remove it from the device and reinstall it back for a half-hour or so.
2. Bad Motherboard
If there is no problem with the power supply of the machine. Then, chances may be that the motherboard of your device is destroyed. You can try to replace another one to check it out.

Xbox One Turns off Suddenly
Compare to the console that won’t turn on, it sometimes will also turn off without your action.
1. Wrong Settings
If your Xbox console turns off unexpectedly after a period of time without activity. You may need to adjust the settings.
Step 1. While the console is on, hold the Xbox button on the controller to open the Home screen.
Step 2. Navigate to Settings > Power & startup > turn off after.
Step 3. Select the proper period of time you can accept after that the console will turn off automatically.
2. Bad Power Supply
The situation is similar to the problem of the console won’t turn on, so as the solutions.
3. Improper Ventilation
Also, if your Xbox One console has bad ventilation, it will inform you and turn off suddenly. You can fix this issue like below.
Step 1. Power off the console.
Step 2. Wait at least one hour and move the console to a well-ventilated location.
Step 3. Clear the console vents.
